Payments Policy
Effective Date: January 1, 2025This Payments Policy is part of the Terms of Service of GuardianMesh Inc. and is incorporated by reference.
All amounts referenced in this policy are in Canadian Dollars (CAD) unless otherwise stated.
Overview
This policy explains how payments work on Beava.ca, including fees, payouts, credits, and disputes. By using Beava, you agree to these terms in addition to our Terms of Service.
How Payments Work
- You post a task and set a budget or payment type.
- A helper sends a quote or accepts your offer.
- When you accept a helper, Beava stores a payment authorization on your saved payment method — no charge yet.
- Beava charges the stored payment method when you confirm the task is complete, then credits the helper.
Beava is not a bank or payment processor. We use third-party services to handle transactions securely.
Authorization & Holds
When you accept a helper, Beava places a hold on your payment method for the agreed amount. This is not a charge until the task is marked complete.
Price changes: If you and the helper agree to change the price after booking, the hold will be updated accordingly.
Fees
Beava charges the following fees to maintain the platform:
- Task poster fee: 10% of the task amount, charged to the person who posts the task.
- Helpers receive 100% of their quoted amount — no platform fee is taken from helper payouts.
- Payment processing fee: Standard credit card and payment processing fees apply (typically 2.9% + $0.30).
- Optional features: Premium features like priority listing or subscription plans may have additional fees.
Fees are displayed before you confirm. Task amounts must be between $10 CAD and $5000 CAD.
Task Completion & Payment Release
Payments are released to the helper when the task is marked complete:
- The task poster marks the task as complete, or
- Both parties confirm completion in the app, or
- Auto-release after 2 days if no dispute is filed.
Filing a dispute pauses auto-release for 3 days while we review.
Cancellations & Refunds
Cancellation policies depend on when you cancel:
- Before booking: Full refund, no fees.
- After booking: Full refund of the task amount. minus a cancellation fee of 5%
- After work starts: Partial refund based on work completed. Contact support for disputes.
Cancellation fee: A 5% cancellation fee applies after a Helper is booked to cover payment processing costs.
Payment processing fees are non-refundable.
Credits
Beava credits are a form of in-app currency:
- Credits can be used to pay for tasks on Beava.
- Credits cannot be redeemed for cash.
- Credits are non-transferable between accounts.
- Purchased credits are refundable within 30 days if unused.
- Credits expire after 12 months of inactivity.
Disputes
If you have a problem with a task or payment:
- Open a dispute within 3 days of task completion.
- Funds are held during the review period.
- Beava reviews evidence from both parties and issues a resolution within 5 business days.
Helper Payouts
To receive payouts, helpers must:
- Set up a payout method (bank account, PayPal, or e-Transfer).
- Complete identity verification.
- Provide a legal name matching their payout account.
Payouts are processed within 3 business days of the request.
Tax Responsibility
Helpers are independent contractors and are solely responsible for all tax obligations arising from earnings received through the Platform, including income tax and GST/HST where applicable. GuardianMesh does not withhold income tax, Canada Pension Plan (CPP) contributions, or Employment Insurance (EI) premiums. Consult a qualified tax professional regarding your obligations.
This Payments Policy is governed by the same Governing Law and Jurisdiction provisions set out in our Terms of Service.
